Methods: One hundred adult patients (ASA I-III) scheduled to undergo elective surgery under general anesthesia were randomized either to an I-gelTM (n=50) or an LMA-SupremeTM (n=50). The primary objective was to compare ventilation pressures. Secondary objectives included time and number of trials needed to introduce the device, adverse effects and repositioning. Endoscopic view of the glottic aperture and position of the drain tubes with regard to the oesophagus were also evaluated.
